A custom menu on WordPress allows you to organize the menu items through your WordPress dashboard the way you like to make it easy access them. You can place menu items wherever you like to enhance the efficiency of your site.

It saves time to have a menu item organized in a manner that you like. It also makes it easy to carry out different operations on the WordPress menu. The manner in which most webmasters organize the menu items is efficient for them but may not be efficient for others. Getting Started

Sign into your WordPress Dashboard and select Appearance. Then, select Menus to proceed. You can have different items from here just as the image showed as below.

Select Menu Name from Appearance >> Menus >> Menu Name. Next, give you custom menu a name; you can give it any name you like.

Select the pages you want covered by the custom menu by checking on the checkboxes provided. After this, click Add to Menu button.

You can also add custom links that can link to your site from the custom menu.

On the WordPress custom menu, you can add category pages. This redirects the pages to the category you have selected for them. You only need to check the boxes to add the categories. However, some themes lack navigation support. To this end, you should use the Custom Menu Widget on WordPress.

Note that you have to save the changes you make at every step to ensure that you do not lose the track. You can change the menu item name from what it is. To do this, click on the down arrow on the right side of each item. After clicking the down arrow, the menu item can be expanded, and you can enter a new name.

Activating the Menu

To start accessing the menu, you must activate it. Go to the Primary Menu and open Theme Locations module. Here, you can see the menus. Select the menu that you want to activate and click the Save Button shown below it. You can have your new WordPress custom menu activated and can preview it by refreshing the WordPress dashboard.

You can add more items to the menu such as the links to certain posts by following the same process. You can also delete the custom menu and replace it with another one as you wish by following the same steps as expounded above.
